  • Fire Door Inspection Services

It has been a requirement for many years, especially since the Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 and now the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 which has made the inspection of fire doors a legal requirement for a large range of building types, to have fire doors inspected annually as a separate activity from the mandatory Fire Risk Assessment (Regulation 10)

When dealing with the range of inspection services required under Regulation 10, the competency of the inspector is paramount, JQA can provide that to the Responsible Person, whose legal duty it is to see that the inspections are carried out.

Jerry Quayle & Associates have undertaken both large (600 plus) and small (5-10 door) fire door reviews which look at all the requirements of a functional fire door and have helped clients achieve compliance when issues have been raised (under certain and appropriate circumstances).

In all property types the fire doors must work and our consultants can provide peace of mind and deliver a comprehensive review including remediation remarks and a return survey to verify remediation.

So, if you think your fire doors are an issue or you just need independent verification for peace of mind, contact Jerry Quayle and we will be happy to talk about our services.

  • Specialist Heritage Services

Following a range of major fire events involving heritage buildings in the UK, the fire industry has been working to evaluate the potential risks of fire events and the effects on buildings that fire have. Jerry Quayle has been involved in a small way, but JQA offers a bespoke service to those that have legacy and heritage doors that need to provide fire resilience.

Working with the architects, buildings contractors, managing agents and the regulators both fire and heritage Jerry, has been involved in some significant grade 1 listed building renovations as the specialist fire door consultant. JQA work alongside all parties and liaise with Historic England and other agencies to make sure that the heritage nature of the doors is not lost whilst improving the door and screens ability to withstand a fire event.

  • Resistance to fire testing and Certification

JQA can provide a full range of testing services for resistance to fire as well as reaction to fire, with advice, help with installation and witnessing the testing.

We can provide this advice and project management of testing to many of the international test protocols including: BS476 (21, 21 & 22); EN 1634-1 and ANSI UL10C to name just 3.

We advocate that our clients witness tests as this give a better understanding of how the testing affects the specimen.

JQA work with test houses around the world and can provide access to these testing facilities that clients may not be able to obtain.

  • Training

Over the years Jerry Quayle has been invited to train fire door producers on the technical and quality assurance requirements for the manufacture of fire doors, from Asia to the UK.
This training can be both large classroom and small hands on.

  • Reaction to fire testing and assessment

Increasingly the fire regulations around the world have been increasing their demands on reaction to fire performance especially for both internal and external surface spread of flame.

JQA assist clients with all aspects of testing and assessment of products and systems providing assessments for the regulators.

  • Site Specific Assessments – Fire Door and passive fire products and systems

With the increasing number of specials being requested by designers and architects, JQA have been providing Specific Site Assessments of designs which would be difficult to test.

With an extensive background in passive fire testing, especially fire doors, together with the ability to call upon test data available to us, we carry out assessments to demonstrate compliance.

    We use such Standards as:

BS ISO/TR12470-2:2017 ‘ Fire resistance tests – Guidance on the application and extension of results from tests conducted on fire containment assemblies and products. Part 2: Non load bearing elements’, and

EN15725:2010: ‘Extended application reports on the fire performance of construction products and building elements’.

JQA have signed up to the principles contained in the industry guidance from the Passive Fire Protection Forum (PFPF) - Guide to undertaking technical assessments of the fire performance of construction products based in fire test evidence, 2021, Industry Standard Procedure’.
